Costa Rica 2016 - ITINERARY (tentative)
MAY 23 to June 3


April/May Orientation & Course work at BHCC prior to leaving for Costa Rica.
Three Sundays 1:00pm – 4:00pm: April 10, April 24, and May 1.

Day 1/May 23: Depart Boston early morning. Arrive in San Jose CR early evening. Overnight near San Jose.

Day 2/May 24: Travel to the Talamancas Mountains (cloud forest ecosystem).
Overnight at Armonia Ambiental (sustainable farm).

Day 3/May 25: Sustainable farming activities. Visit to coffee cooperative. Overnight at Armonia Ambiental.

Day 4/May 26: Late morning travel to Osa Peninsula. Hike to remote Guaymi Indian Reserve. Overnight in the reserve as guests of the Guaymi family.

Day 5/May 27: Cultural activities with the Guaymi. In afternoon travel to Village of Sierpe on the Sierpe River. Overnight in Sierpe.

Day 6/May 28: Early morning boat trip down the Rio Sierpe stopping along the way to kayak through a mangrove forest. Arrive at the Campanario field station in the early afternoon. Orientation to the station and introductory hike into the forest. Overnight at Campanario.

Day 7/May 29: Climb to canopy platform and zip line through forest. Field research activities. Visit to bat cave. Night hike through the forest. Overnight at Campanario.

Day 8/May 30: All day hike to Corcovado National Park. Late afternoon free time. Overnight at Campanario.

Day 9/May 31: Service-learning project. Evening discussion of Costa Rican conservation and protected areas with a personal challenge. Final night in Campanario.

Day 10/June 1: Leave Campanario via the Rio Sierpe. Catch bus in Sierpe for trip back to San Jose stopping for lunch and souvenir purchases. Overnight in San Jose area.

Day 11/June 2: The day will be spent touring places of interest in the San Jose Central Valley area. Additional opportunities to purchase souvenirs. Farwell dinner in San Jose.

Day 12/June 3: Departure back to the USA.
